Blythe Smith
Principal Consultant Jamie Renwick Advisors

Blythe Smith recently relocated to Fairfield County from San Francisco where she has worked in non-profit fundraising for over 15 years. She began her career in the for-profit sector focused on sales and marketing. Here, she honed her writing, presentation and analytical abilities. After several years working in the technology industry, she sought a deeper connection to her work and began to apply her skills in the non-profit world.

Most recently Blythe led development efforts at Tipping Point Community, a Bay Area version of Robin Hood. She worked closely with the Founder and CEO + Board members to develop and execute aggressive fundraising growth ($450K to $20M over a period of six years). Blythe launched the organization’s first-ever Leadership Council, working to create a meaningful experience for this important subset of supporters while expanding membership from 5 to 20 during her tenure.  She created a culture of fundraising that celebrates generosity and pushes boundaries.

Prior to Tipping Point, Blythe ran a $13M capital campaign for the Katherine Delmar Burke School, an all-girls’ independent school in San Francisco.  She worked closely with the steering committee and head of school to successfully achieve each campaign phase goal (silent, major gifts and public). Upon completion of the campaign, Blythe stayed on to help oversee the school’s Centennial Celebration and to bolster alumnae engagement. She created consensus among various constituents -- parents, alumnae, leadership, staff -- to create consistent messaging and meaningful events that were reflective of the school’s past, present and future.

Outside of these two long-term posts, Blythe has worked as a fundraising consultant in both California and Connecticut. She advised a prominent Bay Area cultural center on their growth strategy, anniversary-based fundraising plan and conducted several board training sessions. Most recently, Blythe worked with a Connecticut-based hedge fund to inform their work around setting up a foundation and encouraging their employees to become more philanthropically minded.

Blythe believes in data-informed goal-setting, easy-to-understand and easy-to-implement development plans and the relentless appreciation and stewardship of donors. She holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and lives in Southport, CT with her husband and three children.
